Sugarcane chair sitting at golden hallway’s end
Warmed calico stretching in oriental afternoon sunspot
Unworn dress hanging behind crystal knobbed door
Mild pang in her chest as she remembers –
she sleeps on only one side of the bed.

Casual scrape of slippers across almond kitchen floor
Sweet smell of coffee and garlic on her breath
Favorite shade of lipstick on the rim of every
mug and glass she owns –
