5:30 am
young girl
dense fog of
yesterday’s
disappointment
swallows her
damp hair clings
her temples
lethargic legs
blunder thick morning
uncertainty
distant tiny light
bounces
up and down
passing dog barks
blind bolt of sound
metal leash clinks and
flails, owner’s arm
jerks in rhythm
excited paws
hearts pound and grow
eyes begin to see
thoughts uneven
sidewalks rise
devious angles
her brain sends
messages
she leaps
friendly neighbor
commends her
sense of
balance
